Dr Philip Catherwood has worked in a range of R&D industries developing bespoke scientific measurement equipment and high-speed optical communications. Dr Catherwood devised the installation of NI’s first SIGFOX base-station (Ulster University), which also made Ulster the first UK University to operate a base-station. His research interests focus on the Internet of Medical Things, wearable medical devices, indoor radio channels, and biotelemetry point-of-care diagnostics. He has spoken at numerous international events and regularly reviews for IEEE/IET journals. His technical contribution was acknowledged through two prestigious Telecommunications recognition awards.
